Invisible braces - Invisalign treatment

The Invisalign® system of clear removable aligners is a popular alternative to fixed metal braces. The aligners used are made of a clear plastic material which make them virtually invisible. Specially made to fit your mouth, they sit over your teeth, much like a sports mouthguard does, only they are much thinner. This means the aligners are virtually invisible to anyone around you.

How does Invisalign work?

Each customised aligner is worn for approximately two weeks. After the two week period is up, you will need to replace your aligners with a new set as they work in sequence to gradually straighten your teeth. Typically, each aligner is worn for 20-22 hours per day and for two weeks at a time. There may be up to 25 aligners in an average case.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

In addition to the aligners being virtually invisible, one of the main benefits of Invisalign is that the aligners are removable. This means they can be taken out for eating, brushing and flossing, as well as for playing sports and musical instruments. They can even be taken out for important occasions, such as business meetings, first dates and weddings.

Types of Invisalign

At Signature Orthodontics, our specialist orthodontist, Dr Preet Bhogal is experienced in the use of all Invisalign programmes. These include:

  • Full Comprehensive - treatment usually takes between 12 and 24 months and can fix most orthodontic problems.
  • Invisalign Lite - this version of Invisalign is suitable for patients who only require treatment of the front six teeth. Results can occur in as little as six months.
  • Invisalign Express - another of Invisalign's fast treatment options, Invisalign Express can bring about results for treatment of the front six teeth in three months.
  • Invisalign First - the version of Invisalign just for children. These aligners help with pre-emptive orthodontic treatment to prepare the teeth and jaw for any required treatment in later years.

Invisalign™ can be used to treat most mild to moderate cases and is suitable for adults and children alike. The aligners are comfortable to wear, easy to live with and their clarity makes them almost invisible.
